Houston Organic Garden Tips & Advice
Hi, I’m Sarah, over here at Beck’s Home and Garden, and today I want to show you guys how to propagate a plant. It’s just like a fancy word, how to make new plants with existing plants. So, what you’ll need, you need some water, a little jar, you could use it like a clear glass if you want, some shears. Now, what’s important is you’re going to want to clean up your shears, so get a little alcohol, because you don’t want to infect your plant. We’re going to clean it up real good. Makes you nice and clean. Okay.
So, this is one of our pathos, and it’s starting to get kind of leggy. And so when you propagate and when you’re cutting, it helps you promote new growth in the plant, so it’ll make a plant fuller. And where you want to cut, is you see these? These are little nodes. Okay? You see here, and then here, and here, this is where it’s going to be rooting from. So what I’m going to do, is I’m going to cut it right here below the node. Okay? Now with this one, so here’s a node right here. We’re going to cut in between. I’m going to do one here, and another node here, and I’ll do another one here, and here, and here. Okay? Now, simple.
All I’m going to do is just water. I’m pouring any glass of your choice. When you want to do it, where you node is, make sure that it’s in the water. So I’m just going to put it in water like this. And there are quite a few ways to propagate your plants. And a lot of people like to use soil, or perlite, or some sphagnum moss, but water is my favorite because I can see the roots coming, I think just fun, but there’s no right way or wrong way. And then what I like to go in with the water is just a little root drops or a propagation drop, put just a few drops in there. And now all you have to do is wait. And change out the water maybe once a week, let it have fresh water. And in a few weeks, this is what happened, you’re going to start getting roots, and that’s it. That’s how you propagate. And then you can plant into soil and make a new plant.
