Sandie Moger:

I am Sandie from HomeShow Garden Pros, and this is Isaac from Spring Gardens Nursery. We are going to talk about this intimidating sprinkler system. So I’ve heard a lot about checking our sprinkler systems. Where do I start?

Isaac Smuin:

Well, you can go to manual.

Sandie Moger:

Manual. Easy enough. And pick a zone. Okay, and now it says, “Hold to start.”

Isaac Smuin:

And let’s go check it out.

Sandie Moger:

All right, let’s go see. So we’re looking for wrong direction, blockages.

Isaac Smuin:

And you can see this head right here, it’s spraying in the wrong direction. The head next to it is too low, so you’re not getting adequate coverage. So we can go ahead and fix this problem.

Sandie Moger:

That’s great. Okay, so let’s go figure out how to get this fixed.

Isaac Smuin:

Here’s a brand new sprinkler head, and we want to make sure that it matches what we’re replacing. The 90 degree angle.

Sandie Moger:

The direction?

Isaac Smuin:

Yes.

Sandie Moger:

Okay. All right, so we’ve got that on there. I’ve chosen the correct head.

Isaac Smuin:

Right.

Sandie Moger:

So how do I get it out of the ground first?

Isaac Smuin:

Well, you dig up the head and then you unscrew it to the left.

Sandie Moger:

Okay, so I’m going to take it out of the ground. It’s out of the ground.

Isaac Smuin:

Right.

Sandie Moger:

All right, now it’s pointing the wrong direction.

Isaac Smuin:

Right. So what you’re going to do is unscrew the top.

Sandie Moger:

Okay. Easy enough.

Isaac Smuin:

Okay.

Sandie Moger:

All right. Okay.

Isaac Smuin:

And then what you’re going to do is you can pop the nozzle up.

Sandie Moger:

And I see where it’s pointing.

Isaac Smuin:

And then you can adjust it to where you want it in the correct direction. Then you put it back in, and then screw it back in. And then screw this back in-

Sandie Moger:

To the ground.

Isaac Smuin:

… to the ground.

Sandie Moger:

And then I’ve got it pointing right there.

Isaac Smuin:

And then you have this triangle and a 90 degree angle to make sure that that’s spraying in the correct direction.

Sandie Moger:

So do we always have to replace an entire sprinkler head to fix a direction problem?

Isaac Smuin:

No, we don’t.

Sandie Moger:

Okay.

Isaac Smuin:

The thing that we can do is just pop this up, this nozzle, and you can see by the nozzle it’s spraying in this direction. All we need to do is twist it-

Sandie Moger:

Great.

Isaac Smuin:

… to where it sprays in the proper direction.

Sandie Moger:

Okay. So now we have the fan facing this direction. Okay. All right, well let’s go see if that worked. So we think we’ve corrected the direction problem on that sprinkler head. So we’re going to go through and check that zone and let’s find out if-

Isaac Smuin:

All right, let’s go.

Sandie Moger:

… it’s pointed in the right direction. Yay, we’ve got it. Well, thanks very much, Isaac,-

Isaac Smuin:

No problem.

Sandie Moger:

… from Spring Gardens Nursery. Well now my yard’s getting watered just perfectly. Thank you.

Isaac Smuin:

No problem.
