Hi, this is Rich Edie with Wild Birds Unlimited on Barker Cypress and on Memorial Drive.

Now, I know what you’re asking. Do I really need an electronic feeder or birdbath? Well, the answer is yes and there are lots of reasons why. So Wild Birds Unlimited is a great place to get started with adding electronic devices to your backyard. We’ve got bird feeders, we’ve got nest boxes, we’ve got birdbaths, and we have hummingbird feeders. Now, what’s the advantage to having an electronic feeder in your yard? Well, number one, you can watch what’s going on on your feeder wherever you are. So if you love watching your feeders and you happen to be at work, you can pull up the app on your phone and you can see what’s going on on your backyard bird feeder. What’s nice about the backyard bird feeders is they all have an app and you can go back in time and see what kind of birds have come to your feeder. You can save still shots and you can save videos so you can share them with your friends.

The other advantage to our electronic devices is that you can share that device with a family member or a friend, so now they can see what’s going on in your backyard as well. And it even grows bigger than that. If you live in Houston and your parents live in Colorado and they have an electronic feeder, now you both can watch to see what’s going on in each of your backyards because they get different birds in Colorado than we do in Houston. So it really expands the joy of backyard bird feeding.

So we talked about having a lot of different devices in the store. We have bird feeders. We have our BirdReel bird feeder and we have our BirdFeed bird feeder. Both of them are great feeders. Each of them have a great app and they will help you identify the birds that are coming to your feeder. The features are similar. A lot of it is we call it form over function. What feeder do you like to look at in your backyard and where do you think you’re going to put it?

Bird feeders are great and this is where everybody gets started, but we also have nest boxes. Why would I want an electronic nest box? Well, a couple of reasons. One, did you know that Eastern bluebirds along the Gulf Coast region are really starting to make a comeback? Cornell actually identified the Houston Gulf Coast as a expanding population of Eastern bluebirds, and that’s because of you guys. We’re all putting out our nest boxes in the backyard and an electronic bluebird box would actually really help you enjoy the hobby even more. So this is a BirdReel bluebird box. And so as you can see, the camera’s mounted in the roof of the nest box. So you’ll get a literally bird’s eye view of the bird coming into the box, building the nest, laying the eggs, watching the eggs hatch and ultimately, watching the young fledge from the nest. So you’ll get a lot of joy watching that whole cycle of nature and you’re really helping the bluebirds.

So bird feeders are great and you say, “Hey, I already have an electronic bird feeder.” Well, what about an electronic birdbath? These are awesome. So every bird needs water. We talk about if you don’t have a feeder in your backyard, but you want to enjoy birds, a birdbath is a great way to get started because all birds need water. And this birdbath will give you a bird’s eye view of every bird that’s coming to your birdbath. They will almost always land on the perch first. They’ll jump down into the water and you’ll get a great shot of the bird taking a bath in your birdbath.

We also have hummingbird feeders. So starting August, September, October, we have our ruby-throated migration that’s coming. So now’s a great time to pick up an electronic hummingbird feeder because now you can watch the hummingbirds coming to the feeder, fighting over the nectar, and getting ready for their migration back south again.

So electronic feeders are great for lots of reasons. It really helps you connect with your backyard, bringing you a lot more joy, and they also help people that might have a little bit more of a disability in their backyard, say mom or dad or grandpa who really like their bird feeder, but it’s getting harder for them to get out there and enjoy it. An electronic feeder allows them to watch what’s going on in their backyard right from the comfort of their home. So an electronic device in your backyard, bird feeder, nest box, birdbath, hummingbird feeder, those are all great devices to start adding to your backyard bird feeding enjoyment. That’s why here at While Birds Unlimited, we love bringing people and nature together and this is a great way to do that.
