Mary Nelson Gonzales:

Hi, this is Mary with Nelson Nursery and Water Gardens. It is summer and hot and we need to water our potted plants, and I have a great tip for you to keep them looking wonderful all summer long.

When you’re watering your potted plants, the water that you’re using is actually leaking nutrients out that your plants desperately need to stay alive in the summer heat. So a trick I like to use is adding in a little bit of liquid fertilizer into my watering can every single time I water. So I don’t use too much, and that way I know that this plant is going to get all the nutrients it needs and stay healthy and growing strong. Because it’s in a pot, it can’t send its roots down there to search for nutrients, and this will keep that plant growing wonderful and strong all through the Texas summer heat.
