Maria wrote us an email asking for a shade part sun hardy shrub. An excellent example of that would be Camellias. There’s one right behind me, full grown. It is large, is almost tree-like, but it is in full bloom. And as you can maybe see, there’s a lot of pollen and also a lot of bees flying around collecting that pollen. So in addition to being beautiful, it’s got a slight fragrance and it’s a good source of pollen for pollinators in the fall, winter when Camellias bloom. And that’s another great point is that chameleons are usually blooming when other things are not.
So it’s a nice thing to throw in the mix. It’s an evergreen shrub, extremely cold, hardy, and blooms when other things aren’t blooming. So it gives you color in your garden when everything is either dormant or just plain green.
